connect to the roots of the tradition and empower yourself by learning authentic methods of inner alchemy, energetic purification and self-mastery

HISTORY

According to historical records, Haṭha Yoga was first systemized via the great sage Goraknath (Gorakṣanātha) who attributes his awakening to his initiating guru, the founder of the Nath tradition Sri Matsyendranātha. The lore indicates that Goraknath took the esoteric Tantrik wisdom he received through the transmission from his guru and transformed it into an embodied yogic discipline (sādhana) that became the system of Haṭha Yoga. He emphasized the importance of energetic mastery for spiritual liberation through the yogic techniques of prāṇāyāma, bandha, mudrā, and kundalinī awakening. Scriptural references place this key figure of Haṭha Yoga's emergence to somewhere around 1000 years ago.

Haṭhaहठ

From ha meaning Sun, and ṭha meaning Moon: literally, union of Sun and Moon; esoterically: joining together of opposites.

TANTRIK HATHA YOGA

Haṭha Yoga "borrows" its metaphysical understanding from Samkhya, its energetic knowledge from Tantra and its spiritual methodology from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. We view it as a comprehensive spiritual science that expanded on the teachings of the traditions which it came out of. Haṭha Yoga specifically integrated the Tantrik science of the subtle energy body -- the nadi system, the chakras, prana, and kundalini into an embodied yoga sādhana. Traditional Haṭha Yoga, then, is considered "Tantrik" due to the fact that it emerged from and is heavily influenced by Tantrik wisdom science; it cannot be divorced from these teachings. Many modern schools of "yoga" have lost their connection to these roots.
